Road Trip to Chandelao and Ghanerao, Rajasthan

Chandelao village is situated just 40kms from Jodhpur city on the edge of the Thar. Still the home of descendents of Rao Kumpa, who fought against Sher Shah Suri, the Afghan ruler of Delhi and died in the battle of Sumelgiri in 1544 A.D. Seeing this brave Rajput General, Emperor Sher Shah Suri said, “for a handful of Bajra, I nearly lost the kingdom of Hindustan”. Chandelao Garh was built by his grandson Rao Puranmal who had annexed Sirohi for the Maharaja of Jodhpur.

Entering into the majestic gateway of Chandelao Garh is like taking a journey into the past. You are taken into times past and the feudal splendor of this bygone era comes to life before your very eyes.

Chandelao gives a glimpse into everyday Rajasthani village life. The villagers are friendly and welcoming especially the children. Chandelao Village is a typical Western Rajasthan village still caught in a time capsule. You can walk this village to get a first hand impression of the ‘Real India’.

The village has three beautiful lakes where you will find demoiselle cranes, sarus and other water birds. You can also visit a medieval stepwell where village women in their traditional attire come to fetch water.

Visit to Bazar of Pipar – Any visit to Chandelao calls for a visit to the Bazaars of Pipar. The Pipar Bazaars have always been famous for the local crafts and ethnic items only available here. Here you also visit the Block Printers.

Ghanerao

Ghanerao is a quiet village with an assortment of temples, step wells and marble archways. Ghanerao and its vicinity abound in temples, both Hindu and Jain. There are about eleven Jain temples (a few of them quite old) in the village itself. Besides these, there are temples of Laxmi Narainji, Murlidhai and Chabhiya. On its outskirts, there is a temple of Mahadev. The temple of Gajanand is worth seeing for its enormous statue, which is flanked by goddesses Ridhi and Siddhi, guarded by Hanuman on one side and Bhairon on the other.

Attractions in Ghanerao:

Ghanerao Royal Castle: Rajasthan state is famous for monuments, palaces, man-made lakes and many other things. The Ghanerao Royal Castle is the place famous in the whole state of its architectural structure.

Muchhal Mahaveer Temple: This is a favorite temple for travelers having a good idol of Jain Guru Mahaveer. Gajanand Temple: Well-known temple of Goddesses Ridhi-Siddhi is listed as a prime Hindu temple of the town. Lord Hanuman and Lord Bhairon Baba idols are also placed in the temple on the other side.

Horse Safari: You love enjoy horse riding then you are at right place. The exciting horse safari tour is a nice feature of Ghanerao. It is the major method of sight-seeing in town. This safari was started in 1992.
